At NEWD Clothing, Nothing Else Will Do. A simple mantra that is the basis for every decision we make, including our fabrics, fits and colors. Established in the Fall of 2006, as a marketing company that would promote artists by selling their art on t-shirts, and with only 2 original shirts, NEWD quickly grew to a portfolio of over 50 designs from 10 contributing artists. While presenting NEWD to national retailers in late 2009, we learned that as a brand our designs weren't consistant enough, so we decided to narrow our focus. They loved the name and the fabrics, but too many styles of designs from the 10 different artists ideas. We focused on high quality tops and designs from one of our artists. The comapny was divided into 3 seperate divisions, NEWD Brand Clothing, Urban Clothing Club and NEWD Custom Printing.

NEWD Brand is our flagship line of Upscale-Casuals. Our super-soft, flattering tops are Made in America and available in a number of colors and sizes from S-XL. All of our tops feature a small NEWD Teardrop logo embroidered on the lower left seam. We chose this location because we wanted it visible if you wanted it visible, and easily hidden if you want it hidden. All tops are made from a Modal and Supima Cotton blend, and our dresses have a touch of spandex for just the right amount of stretch. Give NEWD a try, you will be convinced as soon as you try it on.

Urban Clothing Club is our line of graphic tees designed by artist Johnny Castro. We use 100% combed cotton tees and offer every one of our hand drawn/edited designs in 2 shirt color options on a men's or women's cut tee. All of the designs are inspirations of painter/tattooist/grafitti artist Johnny Castro and are printed in only one or two ink color s to keep the designs clean and attractive.

NEWD Custom Printing is our silk screening division. Bringing a fashion sense to the custom tee shirt business has really set us apart from the competition. We do more than just print your shirts, we will meet with you to find out your goals, and help design a shirt that meets your goals. Whether it's our inexpensive promo tee's our more expensive fashion items, we will work with you to ensure the final product is something people look forward to wearing and not end up as just another work shirt. A little about the Director of Direction – Rob Kessler

The question I always get is, “Why NEWD?” It was a total accident, as many things are. My buddy Patrick was writing a paper in college and stumbled upon the typo. He told me about it and I immediately sat down and drew out the teardrop logo. That was 1997 and from there the name sat in a file folder of business ideas I kept, waiting for just the right time. 9 years later I was pre-selling condos for a developer in a real estate market that was quickly slipping away. I needed to make some extra money, so I called Patrick and asked him for permission to use the name. Graphic tees were becoming a way of life so the timing seemed perfect. Having minimal artistic ability, I decided to partner with local artists, making NEWD a marketing company to start. Instead of an artist trying to sell a $400-$1,000 painting, for instance, I thought, we could put that same art on a shirt and sell $30 tees. This would promote the artist and NEWD. The concept was great and the submissions rolled in, but the promotion of the artists was minimal, at best. In the 3 years I ran the company that way, we built a reputation of having the greatest fitting and feeling shirts, and after a meeting with a West Coast sales team, I decided to drop the graphics on the high end shirts, and just embroider them. Six weeks after that decision, we had a fashion show with 40 new samples and it was a total hit!

I never thought I would be a clothing guy, but I love it and wake up every day excited for the challenges that lie ahead. The NEWD team is growing; Johnny Castro is here to help out and is always working on new designs. My mother, Chris, is now handling all the money, inventory and day-to-day books, which frees me up to talk to stores, and do more tradeshows, further extending the reach of NEWD.

As for me personally, I grew up playing a lot of sports, always laughing and having fun. I’m hard working, goal orientated and dedicated to being a success. I put myself through college in four years, while working full-time, the last two. After 17 years in sales, I understand that side of the business, bringing a perspective that most wholesalers don’t. I believe that working together is the only way to succeed in business, and that is our philosophy with our retail partners. My family is chocked full of entrepreneurs and I am glad that I can join them, back to my grandmother that had one of Detroit’s biggest bridal boutiques, starting with only 2 dresses. As we grow, I look forward to working with some really great people and giving back to a wonderful cause, The MS Society.  I look forward to sharing my life with the people closest to me growing a successful business.
